Splitting a clip is an essential technique in video editing that allows you to isolate specific sections of your footage for precise adjustments or creative enhancements. Whether you’re looking to remove unwanted parts, rearrange segments, or create transitions, mastering the art of splitting clips can transform your editing process.

In the “Video Editor” modal, position the timeline cursor at the point where you want to make the split.

When the timeline cursor is positioned at the start or end of a source the message below will appear if you try to split the source.

Select the “Split clip” tool.

By default, every source in the timeline will be split.

To split only specific sources in the timeline, use the lock icon to secure any sources you don’t want to split.

The lock will close.

Only unlocked sources will be split. For example, in this case, only the video was split since it was unlocked.

Alternatively, right-click on the source in the timeline and choose “Split clip.”

Remember to click “Save” once you’ve finished making changes.
